Matt Cooke wasn't the only one-time Penguins forward with a spotty history to strike an opponent's head last night. Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong took a pot shot at the noggin of Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk:
Based on the camera angles available, it's difficult to tell if Armstrong left his feet. But that shouldn't matter. Armstrong went after van Riemsdyk's head. That should be the only criteria that matters when doling out punishment. Armstrong was booted from the game. He should get some supplementary discipline.
(Note: How disgustingly ironic is it listening the Flyers' announcers criticize Armstrong for his actions? That pig-slop organization thrives on caveman hockey. We're shocked Keith Jones didn't try to buy Armstrong dinner for the hit. We're assuming their reaction wasn't nearly as strong when Mike Richards knocked out Florida's David Booth last month.)
