So we felt we were watching a little bit of once-in-a-generation type of history last night when we saw Petr Sykora and Pascal Dupuis each recorded their first career hat trick in the same game. Seriously, how often does something like happen?
We were going to save the copy of IceTime from the game and tell our grandkids of that snowy December night in "Ought-Eight" when we saw Peter Gun and Pascal the Rascal create arguably the "where were you when (blank) happened" moment of this century. Yeah, that whole Barack Obama thing about a month back was kind of big, but two first career hat tricks in the same game? Come on....
Leave it to the Flyers to ruin everything.
Ironically enough, the last time two players netted their first career hat tricks in the same contest was exactly one-year ago to the day. In the Flyers' 8-2 blasting of the Penguins, Dec. 11, 2007, R.J. Umberger and Joffrey Lupul each recorded three goals.
With a broken heart, we now publically implore Mart Eaton, Tim Wallace and Dany Sabourin to each record their first career hat tricks during Saturday's meeting in Philadelphia in order to take their rightful place in history and to extract a measure of revenge.
(Kudos to the Penguins for contacting Elias Sports Bureau for that information and for Bob Grove giving us a heads up.)
