The Penguins gave forwards Jeff Taffe and Tim Wallace (right) a rotten Christmas present and sent them down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.
EN Says: We all know what Taffe offers. He's a competent fourth liner who can do a bit of everything but none of it at an elite level. He has two assists in eight games this season and is a minus-2.
For as little playing time as he got, Wallace played well in his cup of coffee in the NHL. He's an energy guy who is more than willing to go into the corner and get is nose dirty. He has one assist in seven game with the Penguins this season an has an even plus-minus rating.
We assume this means the great Mike Zigomanis is healthy, but we're not holding our breath.
By the way, we're not talking ill of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. We're just commenting on the fact Taffe and Wallace were demoted within the organization.
