Penguins

Atlantic Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Mike Richards came up huge with two goals and three assists for the Flyers in a 6-3 defeat of the Sabres. Teammate Simon Gagne added two assists while Martin Biron made 39 saves in the win. Jaroslav Spacek led Buffalo with two goals. The Sabres are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 66 points, four more than the Penguins who are in tenth place with 62 points.

-Shootout goals by Zach Parise and Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 3-2 win at Tampa Bay. Kevin Weekes made 39 saves in the win. Former Penguins forward Ryan Malone scored both of the Lightning's regulation goals. Fire Ray Shero.

-Islanders forward and former Penguin Richard Park missed a game last night due to broken ribs. The injury ended a consecutive games streak of 223 for Park. He is expected to miss four weeks.

-This is a few days old, but check out this dirty knee-on-knee hit by Rangers defenseman Erik Reitz on Islanders forward Sean Bergenheim Wednesday night:

-Don't expect the Flyers to be big spenders at the trade dealine. They're up against the salary cap. Puppies. Water. The joke is in there somewhere.

Northeast Division

-Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is dealing with a broken jaw.

-Montreal general manager Bob Gainey revealed his team had discussions with Lightning in regards to Vincent Lecavalier.

-The Canadiens' Kostitsyn brothers are apparently involved with an organized crime figure in Montreal.

Southeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Eric Staal had two goals and led the Hurricanes to a 6-2 rout of the host Islanders. Sergei Samsonov had a goal and two assists for Carolina which won it's fourth consecutive game while teammates Dennis Seidenberg and Ray Whitney each added a goal and assist. The Hurricanes are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 63 points, one more than the Penguins.

-The Hurricanes recalled defenseman Tim Conboy from Albany of the AHL and put forward Justin Williams on injured reserve.

-Former Penguins prospect Joe Jensen was one of four Albany River Rats hospitalized when their team bus crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

-Capitals owner Ted Leonis issued an invitation to President Barack Obama to attend his first hockey game.
