Fletcher officially named Wild general manager - 5-22-09

Chuck Fletcher (right), the Penguins assistant general manager since 2006, was officially named the second general manager in the history of the Minnesota Wild this afternoon. He replaces Doug Risebrough who held that position since the franchise's inception in 2000.

Fletcher essentially served as the general manager of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in his time with the Penguins and previously held positions with the Panthers and Ducks.

EN Says: The Wild made a nice hire. Fletcher had a significant role in the renaissance of the Penguins and he should be able to quickly turn around the Wild which isn't in a hole as deep as the Penguins were in 2006.

The Penguins will not have an easy time finding his replacement.

UPDATE: Maybe the Penguins will have an easy time. Jason Botterill, previously the team's director of hockey administration, was promoted to assistant general manager.
