-The Avalanche promoted assistant general manager Greg Sherman to general manager and fired head coach Tony Granato. Also fired were assistant coaches Jacques Cloutier, Dave Barr, Jeff Hackett and P.J. DeLuca.

Pacific Division

-The Stars signed goaltenders Matt Climie and Brent Krahn to one-year, two-way contracts.
