The Oilers have finally brought in a championship-caliber goaltender in former Blackhawk Nikolai Khabibulin. The deal is for $15 million over four years. He was 25-8-7 in 42 games last year with a 2.33 goals against average and .919 save percentage and three shutouts. He led the Blackhawks to their first conference final in over a decade last season.
EN Says: This signing was a must for the Oilers if they had legit hopes to reach the postseason. The best two goaltenders on the free agent market before today were Khabibulin and former Flyer Martin Biron. We'll take Khabibulin and his Stanley Cup ring any day. The money might be a little high for an older guy with injury issues, but if he's healthy, Khabibulin is a guy who can win playoff games.
