Four minor moves - 7-1-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Wild made its first signing of the day by inking former Predators defenseman Greg Zanon to a three-year deal worth $1.66 million per season. He had 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 82 games last season.

EN Says: Zanon's a solid No. 5 or 6 type of player on the blue line but nothing more.

For a team that told anyone that would listen it would be a big player in free agency, the Wild has been quiet.

The Predators lost another player as forward Vernon Fiddler (right, with Jordin Tootoo) signed with the Phoenix Coyotes. The deal is for two years for $1.1 million per season.

EN Says: Fiddler's a third- or fourth-liner who plays an energy game. He won't make or break any roster.

The Bruins signed former Stars forward Steve Begin to a one-year deal worth $850,000. He had 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 62 games with Montreal and Dallas last season. The Bruins also resigned forward Byron Bitz.

EN Says: Both players are also third- or fourth-liners who bring energy.
