Garorik signs with Rangers - 7-1-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Rangers couldn't go quiet on a day like this. A day after clearing out Scott Gomez's big deal, they signed former Wild sniper Marian Gaborik to a five-year deal worth $7.5 million a season. Gaborik missed most of the season due to various injuries and was limited to 17 games in 2008-09. He had splendid totals in his limited time 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists).

EN Says: Leave it to the Rangers to find a way out of a bad contract just so they can sink themselves into another bad deal.

Gaborik is a marvelous talent and could be a top-ten player in this league if he was ever to stay healthy. And considering the constant whispers that he's a little weak in the heart department, it's hard to imagine John Tortorella not blowing his top at Gaborik from time to time.

The Rangers are taking a big risk here. It could pay off big time for them, but it could also blow up in their faces.
