First day of camp - 9-13-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Greetings from Mellon Arena on the first day of training camp. A few pictures. This was the line to get in:

The first group warming up:

-It looks like Tyler Kennedy is getting some serious consideration to replace Maxime Talbot on the second line. He was skating with Evgeni Malkin and Ruslan Fedotenko much of the session. Kennedy and Fedotenko hooked up for a nifty goal during the session on Brent Johnson that prompted some applause.

-We already have a jersey foul. Fedotenko's name on his jersey was spelled "FedEtenko."

-Craig Adams was on a line with Mike Rupp and Eric Godard. We'd like to see who would a race between those three if you made Adams wear his skates on the wrong feet.

-Goaltender Brent Johnson and Jordan Parise having a chat in the neutral zone:

-The second session has started with Pascal Dupuis on a line with Jordan Staal and Matt Cooke.

-A little bit of breaking news. The team has hired Ryan Mill to fill in as public address announcer while John Barbero who is recovering from a medical condition. Mill, 37, is a native of Cranberry.

-There was a funny moment during the second session where Cooke beat Marc-Andre Fleury for a nifty goal then skated up to Fleury and chest bumped him. That prompted a lot of laughter.

-Fleury made a really nice glove save on a wrister by Dupuis that prompted some applause.

-The third session has started. You won't believe this. They have SIdney Crosby on a line with Bill Guerin and Chris Kunitz. OMG!

-Guerin took the ice along with Dan Bylsma to a pretty enthusiastic applause.

-Fleury has double-up and will work this session along with John Curry.

-There seems to be a vendor here from Bauer trying to unload some equipment on the players:

-More teaching:

-Want some Penguins' water:

-We have an unofficial estimate of 4,000 folks here in attendance.

-As expected the defensive pairings are:

Oprik-Gonchar

Eaton-Letang

McKee-Goligoski

-It's really odd to see the boards here without any advertisements.

-Crosby and Alex Goligoski had a pretty nasty little battle in front of the net on a drill. It resulted in Crosby dropping Goligoski with a cross check from behind.
