Penguins make 12 cuts - 9-16-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Penguins cut 12 players from their training camp roster today.

Forwards Aaron Boogaard, Zack Sill, Joey Haddad, Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Nick Petersen and Keven Veilleux (right), defensemen Lane Caffaro, Brian Strait and Alex Grant and goaltender Jordan Parise were assigned to their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Forward Nathan Moon was returned to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Defenseman Jamie Hunt was released.

Note: The Penguins have brought in former Kings forward Konstantin Pushkarev into camp on a tryout basis. A second-round pick in 2003, he played with Los Angeles during parts of the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. He recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in 17 games with the Kings. He was sent to Dallas at the 2007 trade deadline as part of a deal that sent former Kings captain Mattias Norstrom to Dallas. He never played with the Stars and instead only played with their AHL affiliate in Iowa through the 2007-08 season. He spent last season playing for Evgeni Malkin's old team, Magnitigorsk Mettalurg of the KHL.

EN Says: There really aren't any surprises here. The Penguins have a ton of depth.
