Penguins

Atlantic Division

-The Devils have a Niedermayer on the roster once again. Rob Niedermayer. The former Ducks forward and brother of former Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer signed with New Jersey.

-New Jersey also signed former Sabres goon Andrew Peters to a two-year, one-way deal.

-Former Penguins forward prospect Daniel Carcillo can be an asset to the Flyers if he can keep himself composed.

-Due to salary cap issues, the Flyers are expected to try and sneak defenseman Randy Jones through waivers.

-The Rangers demoted Bobby Sanguinetti to Hartford of the AHL.

-Devils defensemen Mark Fraser and Mike Mottau are dealing with undescribed injuries.

-Fraser was injured in a fight with Carcillo last night:

-The Islanders demoted forwards Greg Mauldin, Micheal Haley, Tomas Marcinko, Matt Martin, defenseman Dustin Kohn, Brett Westgarth and goaltender Scott Munroe to Bridgeport of the AHL.

-The Rangers got two goals and an assist from Marian Gaborik and beat the Capitals, 3-2.

-An overtime goal by Mike Pyorala gave the Flyers a 2-1 defeat of the Devils.

Northeast Division

-Former Penguins forward Guillaume Lefebvre signed a one-year contract with the Bruins. He had been in camp on a tryout basis.

-The Senators demoted goaltender Mike Brodeur to Binghamton of the AHL.

-Patrice Bergeron's shootout goal gave the Bruins a 2-1 win against the rival Canadiens.

Southeast Division

-The Thrashers acquired defenseman Steve McCarthy from the Ducks for future considerations.

-Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen has resumed skating for the first time since undergoing knee surgery several weeks ago.

-The Lightning are taking another look at Steve Downie (right) on a line with Vincent Lecavalier and Alex Tanguay.

-The Capitals demoted forwards Jay Beagle and Mathieu Perreault to Hershey of the AHL.

-Martin St. Louis' overtime goal gave the Lightning a 4-3 win against the OIlers.

Central Division

-If the Blues hope to accomplish anything, they'll need strong play once again from goaltender Chris Mason.

-St. Louis demoted Yan Stastny and Barry Tallackson to Peroria of the AHL. Defenseman Jonas Junland was also demoted.

-The Blackhawks recalled forwards Bryan Bickell and Rob Klinkhammer from Rockford of the AHL and put forward Danny Bois and defenseman Richard Petiot on waivers.

-The Red Wings demoted assigned defensemen Travis Ehrhardt, Sergei Kolosov, Sebastien Piche, forwards Jamie Tardif, Tomas Tatar, Francis Lemieux and John Vigilante to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-The Blue Jackets released defenseman Doug Lynch from a tryout agreement.

-Predators forward Ben Guite might be the only NHL player with an MBA.

-Nashville demoted defenseman Jonathon Blum, forwards Ben Eaves, Andreas Thuresson and goalie Mark Dekanich to Milwaukee of the AHL.

-Two goals from Andy McDonald helped the Blue beat the Wild, 4-1.

Northwest Division

-So much for that long-rumored retirement after this season. The Avalanche signed forward Milan Hejduk (right) to a one-year contract extension. The deal will drop Hedjuk's salary from $3.9 million to $3 million and will keep him under contract through the 2010-11 season.

-The Canucks signed head coach Alaign Vigneault to a three-year contract extension.

-Vancouver demoted forwards Pierre-Cedric Labrie, Eric Walsky, defenseman Travis Ramsey, Evan Oberg and goaltender Darren Machesney to Manitoba of the AHL, returned defenseman Yann Sauve to his junior team and released forwards Dave Scatchard and former Penguin Ronald Petrovicky from their tryout contracts.

-The Flames demoted forwards Mikael Backlund, Brett Sutter and defenseman Matt Pelech to Abbotsford of the AHL.

-Calgary released forward Theoren Fleury (right) from his tryout agreement.

Pacific Division

-New Coyotes coach and former Penguins forward Dave Tippett has his work cut out for him.

-Phoenix demoted forwards Jeff Hoggan, Joel Perrault, David Spina, goaltender Al Montoya and defenseman Shaun Heshka to San Antonio of the AHL.

-The Kings demoted Andrew Campbell and Marc-Andre Cliche to Manchester of the AHL and returned forward Kyle Clifford to his junior team.

-The Stars hope new backup goaltender Alex Auld can cut down on starter Marty Turco's workload.

-Teemu Selanne's overtime goal gave the Ducks a 3-2 win against the Canucks.

-Loui Eriksson had two goals and an assist in the Stars' 3-2 defeat of the Avalanche.
