-Greetings from a warm, sunny Pittsburgh, Pa. It's in the high 60s, a bit humid and totally beautiful. It almost feels like a waste to spend this day staring at a sheet of ice. Almost.
-Consol Energy Center:
-There's at least one Andy Bathgate fan here:
-The current facility:
-Some folks bring pizza:
-Other can get burgers and hot dogs:
-The scene for the big screen:
-We'd call a jersey foul here with the Ryan Doumit jersey, but... we actually feel bad for this misguided kid:
-The towels and t-shirts being distributed:
-And the Maple Leafs-Senators rivalry is in play tonight:
-A Martin Straka fan:
-A Kevin Ste---- fan:
-This is just awesome:
-The Canadiens-Senators rivalry is in play. And Nordiques fans are always granted immunity from jersey foul rules:
-Check out this bottleneck near B-20:
-No wonder they need a new arena. Imagine if someone yelled "Fire!" or "Gun!" or "Melichar!"
-Evgeni Malkin being popular:
-Jordan Leopold, Deryk Engelland, Ben Lovejoy, Eric Godard, Tyler Kennedy, Brad Thiessen are the Penguins' scratches.
-Milan Michalek, Filip Kuba, Ryan Shannon, Alex Kovalev, Josh Hennessy, Jonathan Cheechoo, Jared Cowen, Derek Smith, Brian Lee, Mike Brodeur.
-Marc-Andre Fleury and Pascal Leclaire are your starting goaltenders.
-And Jimerson does what he does best:

The puck slides to Letang on the left half wall. Letang grips and rips a wrister by Leclaire. What a shot. Letang celebrates with a fist pump. This place goes nuts. Did Guerin intentionally whiff on that shot? Or are we giving him too much credit? Either way, he gets an assist along with Malkin. The "Hey Song" always deserves credit. Senators 2-1.
1:02: Goligoskii blasts a slapper form the right point. Ruutu slides down and blocks it with a "thud." Ooof! That had to hurt. What guts on Ruutu to block that.

0:10: Stala takes a pass on the right wing, gains the offensive zone, and does the move he pulled on Brian Rafalski in last season's Stanley Cup final. Instead of just getting abused like Rafalski, Phillips just falls down and takes out Staal's legs. Staal still manages to get a shot on net. Leclaire holds it out. Phillips is called for tripping. Rought two minutes for Phillips. Crosby, Malkin, Guerin, Gonchar and Letang take the ice.
0:00: End of period. Senators 2, Penguins 1.
-The Penguins started that period horribly but finished it very well. Were there another minute or so in the period, they might have tied this.

-Leclaire has been very good. He has given the Senators a chance to win this game. And that's much more than Brian Elliott has done.
-Guerin has had an up and down game. He has gotten some quality scoring chances on net. But he's made some silly plays in other circumstances.
-Kunitz was bound to get a goal. He's firing pucks left and right and finally just got one going to the net. He's had a wonderful series.
-Fedotenko isn't making or breaking this game by any means, but he's contributing. He's had a few chances near the net. He's had a few solid plays along the boards. He's contributing. And that's something he didn't do at all in Game 1.

The goal horn sounds. Lights start flashing but an offiical in the corner immediate waves it off. They rule Kunitz re-directed it with a high stick. Officials review the play. 0:00: End of period. Penguins 3, Senators 3.
-We can't believe we're here watching this live. This is just unreal.
-At this point, the play is ridiculously sloppy. The players just dont' have much left in the tank.
-Crosby appears spent. He has been a non factor for at least a period and some.
-Malkin still has something left. He created the best scoring chances for the Penguins that period.
-Peter Regin was so, so tough this period.
-We don't begrudge anyone who leaves this game at this point. At some point, you have to live your life. If you have school, kids, work, etc., you just have to take care of your responsibilites.
-The Penguins have a 55-40 lead in shots.
-Guerin leads the game with eight.
-Ruutu leads the Senators with six.
-Gonchar leads the game with 41:34.
-Karlsson leads the Senators with 37:33.
-The Penguins have a 46-43 lead in faceoffs (52 percent).
-Staal is 12 for 18 (67 percent).
-Cullen is 11 for 19 (58 percent).
-Volchenkov leads the game with 10 blocked shots.
-Goligoski, Eaton, Gonchar, Letang and McKee each have two.
-The Senators have a 41-15 lead in blocked shots.
-Letang and Orpik are on the cover of IceTime:
19:02: Crosby gains the blue line with speed and taps a backhanded pass to Kunitz in the left circle. Kunitz takes the pass but waits to shoot as Volchenkov slides down to block it.

12:54: Game over. Alfredsson races up the right wing, pulls up and deals a pass to Carkner at the right point. Carkner fires a slapper. It hits two players then glances off Fleury's left shoulder and into the net. What a crushing way to loose. Alfredsson and Fisher get the assists. Senators 4, Penguins 3.
-Wow. What do you say after that. That was a wonderful display of hockey. For nearly five hours, those two teams battled. One just wanted to end things. The other wanted to stay alive. Both beat the heck out of each other. Both put a ton of rubber on net. The one that wanted to stay alive came out on top.
-This game reached a point where it's nearly pointless to nitpick on what won the game or lost the game. A shot with a few lucky bounces won it. At that stage of the game, you almost just hope to get lucky.
-Give the Senators credit. They came in here reeling after Game 4. They had a goaltender who had never started a Stanley Cup playoff game. THey were injured and outclassed for the most part up until this game. They put together a wonderful effort, made a lot of sacrifices and came out on top.
-Pascal Leclaire was very, very clutch in this game. He was brutal when he relieved Brian Elliott in Game 4. He rebounded with one of the best efforts by a goaltender in this building.
-We can't imagine the physcial toll this has on the player's bodies. These are some of the most conditioned athletes in the world, but even they have their breaking point. Very few of the player were all that sharp after the first overitme.
-There might not be a better conditioned person in this sport than Sidney Crosby. But he was clearly spent. He created a few things in the third overtime, but he just wasn't the same player.
-We can't recall a total committement to blocking shots from a team as we saw tonight. The Senators made a clear-cut effort to get in the way of as many shots as possible. Jason Spezza, Chris Kelly, Zack Smith and Shean Donovan, who had all of six shifts, were the only Senators who failed to record a blocked shot.
-One player we had a hard time locating on the ice was Maxime Talbot. He was very quiet. The Penguins need a bigger contribution from him.
-The Penguins ended up with a 59-44 lead in shots.
-Jordan Staal, Bill Guerin and Crosby each led the game with eight shots.
-Jarkko Ruutu led the Senators with six.
-Sergei Gonchar, who was spotty at best, led the game with 44:08.
-Erik Karlsson led the Sentors with 40:38.
-The Penguins had a 47-45 lead in faceoffs (51 percent).
-Staal was 13 for 20 (65 percent).
-Matt Cullen was 12 for 20 (60 percent).
-Anton Volchenkov had 11 blocked shots. Yeesh.
-Alex Goligoski, Mark Eaton, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Gonchar, Kris Letang and Jay McKee.
-Marc-Andre Fleury's loss was the 20th of his postseason career.
-Crosby's assist was the 75th point of his postseason career.
-Bill Guerin moved past Rick Kehoe for 21st place on the team's all-time career postseason scoring list. Each player has 21 points, but Guerin (eight) has more goals than Kehoe (four).
-Kris Letang moved into a tied with Shawn McEachern for 28th place. Each player has 17 points and six goals.
