The Backyard Brawl and Western Pa. recruiting

Written by Colin Dunlap on .

How important is the game -- the actual game -- between West Virginia and Pitt in terms of recruiting players from western Pennsylvania?
I've often wondered. And because this week, in the run-up to the Brawl here on the blog has been filled with questions, I am going to ask you another:

Is the result of this game the most paramount factor in the recruitment of a prospect from Western Pa. who would be choosing between Pitt and WVU?

Or, do you think other factors are much more important?

Stuff such as the coaching staff, the campus, the totality of the results on the schedule, the depth chart, academic factors, etc.

You know, it has always seemed to me that people have gone on and on and on about the importance of this game in the recruting war between WVU and Pitt. Especially during the news conferences during Backyard Brawl week.

Now, maybe I am just crazy here, but I really don't think the result of the game matters that much.

Am I nuts?

You tell me.

Now, speaking of the Backyard Brawl, don't forget that Paul Zeise and I will be having a joint chat at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
