In my interactions with Dayton coach Brian Gregory (pictured above), I have always found him to be a splendid guy.
Last season, when I traveled to Minneapolis to cover the NCAA first and second round of the tournament and Dayton was there, he was great.
This season at Dayton as I traveled there to cover the Dukes -- again he was first class.
There was a story I was working on a month or so ago, I set up a phone interview and Gregory had me phone him in his office -- same thing, awesome guy.
Today, after a very tough loss, I sat 10 feet from Gregory and he sat there and answered every single question I asked him straight to the point, didn't try to dance around anything. He also went on, well beyond most visiting coaches do in that Palumbo media room, and answered all the questions asked of him. Again, the guy was wonderful.
But there was someone, and quite honestly I don't know who it was (he wasn't a Pittsburgh media guy), who was in the media room and kind of asked the wrong question. Or, at the very least, asked it the wrong way.
The questioner brought a Bic lighter to the party and BG countered with a flamethrower --- and to be quite honest, I don't think Gregory was out of line one bit.
Fast forward to about the 4:00 mark to hear the exchange, the question starts with, "Coach, obviously....." and the entertainment begins from there.
