GOP Truisms

Written by Rob Rogers on .

As the GOP-led Congress tried for the 37th time to repeal Obamacare, I couldn't help but think of that famous quote about how insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Of course, they think this ridiculous endeavor is perfectly sane.

Hey, GOP ... how about you quit with the feigned outrage and conspiracy theories and get back to what you were elected for?

Brewed On Grant: Tartan Burqa

Written by Rob Rogers on .

I was disappointed to see CMU President Jared Cohen cave to Bishop Zubik's wishes and bring criminal charges against student protesters. This seems like a giant leap backwards in an age where freedom of speech is so valued that we will go to unthinkable lengths to preserve it (see Citizens United and Westboro Baptist Church). Don't say this is about indecent exposure. We all know what it is really about. My former colleague, Mike McGough, had a terrific column in the LA Times that says it better than I ever could.

Don't Tread

Written by Rob Rogers on .

It appears that the IRS was using key words like "patriot" and "Tea Party" to flag applications for non-profit status. This is totally offensive and unacceptable. Obama has denounced this kind of partisan targeting. Now, if only we could stop the GOP from their partisan targeting of everything from health care to Benghazi!

Apology Notes

Written by Rob Rogers on .

Former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin has been ordered by Allegheny County Judge Lester Nauhaus to write apology notes to every judge in the state. Apology notes? Is she also going to be forced to stay after school and clap erasers?
