The health care war
Although Congress passed a health care reform bill, we are still left with a two-tier system. We have one system for those who can afford insurance and one for those who cannot afford insurance. We call that other system Medicaid.
One of my daughters, the one who survived cancer (read pre-existing condition), is now in grad school going for another degree. Of course she has no health insurance, but has to go to a doctor so he/she will prescribe blood pressure medication to keep that under control. She is self-pay and the docs in the town where her school is located treat her like one of those deadbeats on Medicaid.
When did we declare war on the poor? I remember the old war on poverty. It changed about the same time we declared war on the unions, and companies started sending jobs overseas. Is any of that related? Has our country gone totally morally bankrupt?
