Building a Maglev high-speed system from Pittsburgh to Greensburg or to the Pittsburgh International Airport is sheer nonsense. Glad the feds turned down that proposal ("Maglev Funding Nonexistent," Jan. 28). It would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Maglev transportation systems are very high-speed trains on magnetic "tracks" and are economically feasible only for long-distance travel.
Maglev from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia and New York -- yes -- but not 20- to 30-mile distances. Forget it.
