Take 'em with a truckload of salt

To their credit, Pittsburgh's three TV news stations have kept their meteorologists' long-range winter weather forecasts, issued in November, available on their Web sites, for the amusement of second-guessers and snide critics. See them here, here and here.

We're not going to name names, but no one came close to foretelling The Snowiest Month in Recorded Pittsburgh History and It Ain't Over Yet. KDKA came closest, saying February would have double the normal snowfall, 17.5 inches. WPXI predicted 10.5 inches and WTAE 10 inches.

As of this writing, we're at 40.3 inches and piling on. Having moved farther away from the T last summer, The Roundabout accurately foresaw a brutally nasty winter, and backed that premonition with a new set of high-end winter tires in October.
