Uh oh ... Greentree Road closing next 4 weekends

Written by Jon Schmitz on .

This doesn’t figure to be pretty: PennDOT is starting a new round of construction on Greentree Road between the bridge over Chartiers Creek and the railroad tracks (near the Route 50 intersection) in Scott. Overnight lane closures will start at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, then a full closure of Greentree Road and Old Washington Pike will occur at 8 p.m. Friday, with reopening by 6 a.m. Monday. The closures will be repeated on the following three weekends, with the last one scheduled for Nov. 9-12. Detours will be posted.

blahI don’t think I’m alone in this: Could we please turn off those incessant recorded announcements about folding strollers, exact change, etc. etc. at Light Rail Transit stations? Not long ago the Port Authority upped the annoyance factor by adding a loud ping before each announcement. Most riders at peak hours are regulars and probably recite the messages in their sleep. Turn off the messages, put up a few signs and use the public address system to give riders useful information when service is delayed.

Remember that another closure of the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel is scheduled this weekend, 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Alternating one-way traffic will occur on the Hulton Bridge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday during inspection.
