Another big project along Tri-Boro starts Monday

Bridge rehabilitation on Interstate 79 in Butler County has traffic down to one lane in both directions between Mile 87 and 88 through early November.

A $13.4 million project to replace the "T" leg of the elevated East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard-Tri-Boro Expressway intersection in East Pittsburgh and North Versailles is set to begin Monday. East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard will be closed at the intersection from 7 a.m. Monday through late October 2013, sending an estimated 5,200 vehicles per day on a detour.

Bridge inspections may cause lane closures on the Boulevard of the Allies in the vicinity of Second Avenue and Ross Street, Downtown, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The closures also may occur on Second and Ross under the bridges.

With 48 days remaining until public transit Armageddon, the various parties in talks to close the Port Authority's $60 million budget deficit and avoid a 35 percent service reduction are still going at it. Representatives of the governor's office, Allegheny County, the authority and its biggest union, Local 85 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, met on Monday. Amie Downs, spokeswoman for County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, said the talks are continuing and the parties remain optimistic.
