More, more, more road work
This advisory is just out from the Pittsburgh Public Works Department about road paving this week, including some work that was already under way. The department took some heat last week for paving Bayard Street in Oakland without public notice, work that caused gridlock in Oakland and Shadyside.
This week's schedule:
Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., East Street from Perrysville Avenue to Evergreen Avenue;
Wednesday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Steuben Street from Chartiers Avenue to Middletown Road;
Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Morewood Avenue from Ellsworth Avenue to Forbes Avenue;
Friday from 7 p.m. to Saturday at 11 a.m., Bigelow Boulevard from Parkman Avenue to Forbes Avenue; Craig Street from Fifth Avenue to Forbes Avenue.
Now, moving outside the city, traffic on the outbound Parkway East will be reduced to a single lane from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays starting Wednesday through June 8. Crews will apply sealant to the new bridge over Business Route 22 between the Monroeville interchange and Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Concrete patching will cause around-the-clock lane closures on Braddock Avenue/Tri-Boro Expressway between O'Connell Boulevard and East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard in East Pittsburgh starting at 7 a.m. Monday and continuing through late June. One lane will be open in both directions.
Lane closures are possible on the Parkway North between Perrysville and Bellevue/West View on Sunday during overpass inspections. Southbound restrictions will occur from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by northbound restrictions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The bridge that carries Route 51 (Coraopolis Road) over Montour Run in Moon and Robinson is once again scheduled to be closed this weekend, weather permitting. Previous closures were scheduled then postponed. PennDOT says crews will be doing major work including expansion dam replacements and concrete substructure repairs that cannot occur with traffic on the bridge. The closure will be from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday between Lewis Avenue and Ewing Street, north of I-79. Route 51 will be open to the bridge location. PennDOT also plans to close the bridge from June 8 to June 18. Details to come.
