Banksville Road construction starts next week
A $4.7 million project to improve Banksville Road will begin on Monday, June 4, weather permitting. It includes milling and resurfacing, culvert improvements, drainage, guiderail, curbing and traffic signal and signage upgrades on 2.4 miles from the Parkway West to McFarland Road. The project will continue into December. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in both directions starting at 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays with the closures lifted by 6 a.m. daily. Some weekend restrictions also are possible from 8 p.m. Fridays through 6 a.m. Mondays.
Final paving on Route 28 at the 40th Street Bridge continues this week. It will bring these restrictions between the Millvale interchange and the former Millvale Industrial Park south of the bridge: Southbound Route 28 will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Traffic will be funnel in one lane to the 40th Street Bridge. Bridge traffic will not be able to reach southbound Route 28 but can get to northbound Route 28 and Millvale; the 40th Street Bridge will be closed to all traffic at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, reopening at 5 a.m. the following days.
Water line installation will cause alternating one-way traffic on Route 88 from Church Hill Road to Berryman Avenue in Bethel Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays through late July. Flag crews will direct traffic. Stop conditions should be expected.
One lane will be closed on the ramp from the westbound Parkway East to Grant Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Caution is recommended.
Westbound Interstate 70 will be reduced to one lane on the Speers Bridge over the Monongahela River from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Monday June 4 for repair of a concrete barrier.
Also on Interstate 70, beams will be set on the Vance Station Road Bridge over the highway, causing lane closures and detours on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The highway will close in both directions from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. both nights and be restricted to one lane in both directions until 6 a.m. the following days. The detour will follow Route 519, Route 40 and Interstate 79.
Cleaning of the Birmingham Bridge will cause short-term lane closures on the bridge and on roads below it starting Tuesday night. The work will affect traffic on the bridge, the Parkway East, Second Avenue and the Boulevard of the Allies from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday to Friday nights through June 15.The Squirrel Hill Tunnels also get a bath this week, causing one outbound lane to close at 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday through 5 a.m. the following days.
Paving will cause lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at these sites: Burtner Road from Ridge Road to Freeport Road in Harrison; and Leechburg Road from Saltsburg Road to Milltown-Unity Road in Penn Hills.

Replacement of reflective pavement markers may cause lane closures and alternating one-way traffic starting at 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays through June 8 on Route 30 from Wilkinsburg to the Westmoreland County line and Route 51 from the Elizabeth Bridge to the Parkway West. Work wraps by 5 a.m. daily.
The left lane on southbound Interstate 79 at the Route 40 interchange in South Strabane will be closed at 8 p.m. Monday, June 4 through Saturday, June 9, with the restriction lifted by 7 a.m. daily, during placement of a pier for the new Route 40 bridge.
Drilling to do research for a future slide repair project will cause alternating one-way traffic on Route 51 between Municipal and Duke streets in Stowe (west of the McKees Rocks Bridge) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Commonwealth Avenue will be closed at the intersection with Route 837-Kennywood Boulevard in West Mifflin from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and traffic on southbound Route 837 will be restricted to one lane during patching of the concrete surface in the intersection.
A $1.2 million project to replace the bridge that carries Brodhead Road over Flaugherty Run in Moon will begin Monday June 4. Beginning at 7 a.m. that day, traffic in the bridge area west of Flaugherty Run Road will be reduced to a single 12-foot wide lane controlled by temporary signals. Trucks will be detoured. The restriction will remain in place through mid-November.
Resurfacing and drainage improvements will cause lane closures on Sewickley-Oakmont Road from Route 19 to Rochester Road in Ross from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays starting Monday June 4 and continuing through June 22. More restrictions will occur later in the project.
