Harvard professor, de Tocqueville expert, speaks Nov. 3 at Duquesne
Harvey C. Mansfield, a professor of government at Harvard University, will give a free lecture Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Duquesne University, on how religious contributions to public life strengthens democratic institutions.
Dr. Mansfield is well known as a political philosopher and is also a translator of the works of Alexis de Tocqueville, a 19th century Frenchman whose observations of the United States remain important for understanding how American democracy developed. Dr. Mansfield will speak on Tocqueville’s alliance of religion and liberty.
