Catholic Men to meet at Duquesne

Written by Ann Rodgers on .

A Gathering of Catholic Men has become a local Lenten tradition, drawing about 2,000 laymen to the A.J. Palumbo Center at Duquesne University annually.

This year's gathering will be on April 9. It's structured around Catholic ritual, including a holy hour, the sacrament of Confession and Mass. But it's also filled with speakers. Headliners include inspirational speaker and businessman Matthew Kelly and theologian Scott Hahn.
This year's theme is taken from 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight." A Gathering of Catholic Men is organized by lay Catholics and has close ties to the Catholic Men's Fellowship of Pittsburgh, which sponsors Bible studies and spiritual support groups in local parishes. Bishop David Zubik will celebrate the Mass and hear confessions.
"Personally I find it inspiring to see hundreds of Pittsburgh area men worshiping together. These men each take a day out of their busy lives to center their thoughts on Almighty God," said Brad Tupi, an attorney from Upper St. Clair who is among the many organizers.
Tickets are $35 in advance (available at parishes) or $55 at the door. It includes a box lunch. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the Holy Hour begins at 9 a.m. The closing Mass at 4 p.m.
