Hilltop help on the way

Hilltop residents, with help from the Hilltop Alliance, have several new partnerships to lean on for help.

The Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development recently awarded the Alliance $100,000 to help pay a professional director, community organizer and to begin to create what residents said they want at a fall meeting last year. The first prioriy was to establish a settlement house of sorts, which people described as a "one-stop shop" for community service and support.

Without a location yet, the idea has been launched

Another Alliance partner, NeighborWorks, will help residents budget, manage credit and prevent foreclosure at Brashear Association's Neighborhood Employment Center, 730 E. Warrington Ave. in Allentown on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 412-281-9773 to schedule an appointment.

On March 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Alliance will hold a community event at ElderAdo senior center, 320 Brownsville Rd. in Knoxville.  Residents can meet with representatives of these organizations and find out more about the services and support they offer. A complementary lunch will be served from noon to 1.

The Hilltop Alliance is an umbrella for the neighborhoods of Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mt. Oliver, Mt. Oliver Borough, and St. Clair.
