The Office of Public Art has scheduled two walking tours for us to understand the art we walk past in parks and on the street and, in some cases, the stories behind their creation.

Next Friday, Sept. 21 at 7p, the tour is a walk through Mellon Park in Shadyside. The meeting spot is at the tennis bubble parking lot.

Tickets are $5 for Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council members and $7 for non-members if purchased before the tour. Onsite registration is $15. Visit publicartpittsburgh.org or call 412.391.2060 ext. 237 to register and to find out the details about the next tour on Oct. 26.

The points of discussion are Peter Calaboyias’ Five Factors, Aaronel deRoy Gruber’s Steelcityscape (pictured above) , Tom Morandi’s Untitled and Janet Zweig’s 7:11 am 11.20.1979 79º55’w40º27’n.

Peter Calaboyias, artist, and Natalie Plecity, former associate at LaQuatra BonciLandscape Architecture, will be the guides.

This project has support from the Fine Foundation.
