That Pump House time of year

Rivers of Steel's every-Sunday Heritage Market opened for the season last Sunday at the historic Pump House and Water Tower in Munhall.

The market is held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National Park Service and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The market is free and open to the public every Sunday from 10a to 2p through September. RoS sent some images from the vendor market, which shares space with musicians and artists.

I thought the photo at right was of stones but upon closer scrutiny I saw that they are scones.

By the way, how do you say scone -- to rhyme with stone or with con?  Some Aussies told me to say it without the long-o, but I've heard it more often the other way... Same with the Greek lamb sandwich. Some people say GY-ro, the first syllable like the first syllable in gyrate, and others say YEAR-roh.

Tomayto, tomahto, potayto potahto....

... back from the tangent. The pump house is on the river trail that’s part of the Great Allegheny Passage.

The original is half of a set of old buildings near Lowe’s in the Waterfront and is the last remnant that had its eyes on the scene of  the 1892 lockout of steel workers that led to "The Battle of Homestead.”

Cyclists are welcome to park in the pump house lot near the road or by the water tower, where there are restrooms available.
