Lots of neighborhood groups are coming up with new brands these days. It’s a marketing strategy that begins with a catchy logo.
The most recent group to get the brand out there is the Mount Washington Community Development Corp., which has a new website and community message — “Together We Can: Inspire. Nurture. Transform.”
Branding is a way to make people think you are brighter, bigger, faster and better than they might have thought you were before. Sometimes, it’s a way for an organization to recharge its batteries and step it up a notch, or to show its constituency that its mission has changed or heightened in one or another direction.
The West Pittsburgh Partnership rebranded a few years ago, with a “WE” campaign, new street banners and a renaming: West End Village. A few years ago, Uptown rebranded; the Central Northside is in talks about a new brand; they’re all lining up to spiff up the image.
The MWCDC has emerged from the rancorous board politics of a few years ago.
“We know this is a team effort,” said Chris Beichner, the MWCDC’s executive director. “Together as a community, we know we can inspire, nurture and transform the neighborhood into achieving our vision of being the number one neighborhood for residents, businesses and visitors in Pittsburgh.”
It’s hard for any neighborhood to be the number one neighborhood in a city with so many that are desirable, but Mount Washington’s might be the best logo yet, so simply elegant and descriptive.
