Beechview IGA two months away, maybe

Written by Diana Nelson Jones on .

Tomorrow in Beechview, about 1,000 people are expected to attend a job fair at the former Foodland, 1616 Broadway Ave. It’s from 10a to 7p. Management will be taking applications for jobs at the new IGA.igabeechview

Ron Levick owns the soon-to-be Beechview IGA (and the one in Oakland.) That's Ron in the photo unloading boxes from a truck in front of the store this afternoon.

Beechview residents have been eager for a replacement grocery since the Foodland closed last summer.

The hold-up has been the building itself, Ron said. The leaky roof needs to be replaced and roofers are backlogged due to the spring rains, he said.

He also wants to improve the facade and the parking lot.

Not too much time, he acknowledged. “But it’ll be sometime, sooner than later. We’re shooting for Aug. 15. A soft opening.”
