Summer Photo Contest Winners

And the winner is... The picture above, taken by Bonnie Culbertson of the South Side. Her 4-year-old son, Henry Culbertson, is playing with his friend Adison Rimer, also 4, at Ormsby Park on the South Side. The judges -- Post-Gazette photo editor Andy Starnes and two other members of the Post-Gazette photo staff -- liked the picture's clean composition and how it captured a candid moment of two children at play. The picture will be published in the Post-Gazette's Sunday Magazine section.

Thanks so much to everyone who entered -- we received more than 80 summer pictures. We loved them all, and can't resist sharing a few (ok, a lot) more...

The judges chose this picture, of 4-year-old Collin Rosenberg of Squirrel Hill, for second place. The photo was taken by Collin's mom, Kelly Rosenberg, at a playground in Schenley Park. The judges called it "a very nice portrait of a boy who exhibits the joy of play -- a winning smile and a winning photo."

For third place, the judges chose the photo above, of 4-year-old Maxwell Cochenour, of Rostraver. The picture was taken by his mother, Samantha Cochenour, at Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver. They liked the framing of the photo and thought that it was enhanced by the removal of extraneous color.

It just so happens that all of the winners were taken at playgrounds (and of 4-year-olds!), but that wasn't a requirement. Below are just a few of the great photos that we received that didn't win. Thanks so much to everyone that entered -- we hope to do more photo contests in the future (Halloween, anyone?!).
