It's county fair season, and that means truck pulls, carnival rides, country bands, pageant queens, pig races, petting zoos, Frisbee-chasing dogs and clowns.

The Post-Gazette has a comprehensive guide to county fairs -- from the largest-in-Pennsylvania Crawford County Fair to the Canfield Fair in Ohio that dates back before the Civil War. New this year at the Westmoreland County Fair is the Lumberjack Jamboree, featuring ESPN-style ax-throwing and hand-saw cutting competitions. There's even a milk-chugging competition (gross!) at the Indiana County Fair.
