Though it's a little late for New Year's resolutions, I'm adding one: Blog more. In an effort to start contributing a little more frequently, I'm going to be loosening up the topics a little. Along with restaurant openings, I'll write more frequently about special menus and events, trends and general restaurant news. Hopefully this will lead to more frequent posts.
While restaurant openings have certainly slowed this winter, they should pick up again this summer and fall. One new entry is "Donato's," which will open in the space previously occupied by Franco's in Fox Chapel.
The restaurant is a partnership between David Tesone and chef Donato Coluccio. Coluccio was previously the head chef at the Capital Grille. Before that, he replaced Greg Alauzen as corporate executive chef of the Steelhead Brasserie and Wine Bar at the Marriot City Center Downtown.
"A complete renovation of the space is underway," wrote Bill Kolano of Kolano Design in an e-mail about the new restaurant. The renovation "will add large windows facing Fox Chapel Road, a mirrored bar, a grand dining room that looks into the new kitchen and a private dining room. Tuscan materials and colors of dark brown, warm tans and rich earth tones will create rooms that are elegant and inviting."
Though Donato's will be a white tablecloth restaurant, Tesone and Coluccio want it to be the kind of place where people eat casual dinners at the bar and come in with their kids, as well as a destination for special dinners.
