Last Minute Options for New Year's Eve

Written by China Millman on .

Forgot to make plans for New Year's Eve? No need to stay at home. These spots offer plenty of options for last minute festivities, as long as you don't mind a possible wait.

Yo Rita on the South Side will be open from 4 p.m. to midnight, walk-ins only. They'll be "mixing Latin and Pgh New Year's traditions" according to their twitter feed.

Salt of the Earth in Garfield is leaving the first floor of the restaurant open to walk-ins, as usual. They haven't posted their menu but here's a few poetic hints from twitter: "warm lobster terrine....parsnip buttermilk custard, cauliflower, lobster roe scrambled egg, shaved truffle, tarragon"

BRGR in East liberty will have tickets at the door for their New Year's party for $60 (tickets purchased in advance are $50). A buffet from 9 to 11 p.m. will include a selection of burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings and salads; ticket also includes two drinks and a champagne toast; along with a DJ from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Mad Mex's Mad New Year's is an impressive bargain, dinner for two for $35. Enjoy an appetizer to share, cup of soup or casa salad each, an entree of choice each, champagne cocktail and dessert to share, along with $6 Big Azz Margaritas all day; walk-ins only.

Toast! Kitchen and Wine Bar in Shadyside is refilling cancellations with last minute callers; seats at the bar and lounge areas will be available for walk-ins.

Tamari in Lawrenceville is leaving the upstairs and downstairs bars open for walk-ins. Along with the regular menu they have a prix fixe for $50 with wine pairings for $25.

Abay Ethiopian Cuisine in East Liberty is walk-in only (parties of 8 or more can make a reservation). They'll be serving their regular menu tonight along with some specials (lamb tibs and peanut butter chicken). Remember, Abay is BYOB, so pick up some something sparkling before you go.

Gypsy Cafe still has some availability for dinner tonight; four-course dinner for early seatings, $50 per person; starting at 9 p.m., it will switch over to a meze-style shared dinner, including a belly dancer performance, $40 per person.
