Spoon: Coming Soon to East Liberty

Written by China Millman on .

When I arrived at work this morning, there was a package on my desk. That usually means a review copy of a cookbook, but this one was from Spoon, Rick Stern's new restaurant set to open soon in East Liberty, in the space previously occupied by the Red Room and 2Red.

Inside the box was a serving spoon, and a small invitation tied to the handle with orange and yellow ribbons:

While I get invited to the occasional preview dinner (no, I don't actually attend), this is definitely the fanciest marketing tactic that I've seen from a Pittsburgh restaurant.

Here's a close up (sort of) of the invitation:

For those who can't read the incredibly well-focused image I shot with my iPhone, the details read:

Rick Stern and Chef Brian Pekarcik invite you to an exclusive and private VIP champagne reception at Spoon to eat, drink and lounge.

For obvious reasons, I won't be going, but a few of my colleagues will probably check it out (we got a couple of invites) and maybe one of them will even report back on this blog.

Based on the event date, it looks like Spoon will be opening late in the second week or early in the third week of July. Stay tuned for more details.
