Get your kids into gardening with help from Phipps

Cool stuff for kids planned at Phipps this winter and the upcoming spring.

They are offering science education programs for children that focus on ecology, conservation, healthy living and art, including a special Celebrate! Series (for ages 4-7), Little Sprouts Single Servings and Multi-Day Camps (for ages 2&3), and Evening Ed-ventures (for ages 6-9). Covering topics from gardening and cooking to plants and insects, all sessions aim to immerse children in the natural world.

Each offering a variety of fun hands-on activities, Conservatory exploration time, healthy snacks and opportunities to create take-home arts and crafts, upcoming programs for January-May 2013 include:
·         Celebrate! Series: Options for these weekend sessions covering sustainability, holiday traditions and green living include Celebrate! the New Year on January 12, Celebrate! Valentine’s Day on February 9 and Celebrate! Natural Beauty on March 9. Times and age groups vary. Cost: $12 for Phipps members and $15 for nonmembers. Discounts available for groups of 5+.
·         Little Sprouts Single Servings: These one-day camps held on Thursdays or Fridays from 10:30 a.m.-noon highlight plants, bugs and healthy foods, and include: Our Tropical Adventure on February 15, We Heart Veggies on April 18, and Our Butterfly Friends on May 17. Adults must accompany children. Cost: $12 for Phipps members and $15 for nonmembers.
·         Little Sprouts Camps: Options for these multi-day camps held from 10:30 a.m.-noon include My First Garden on January 7, 14, 21 & 28; and I Eat Plants on March 4, 11, 18 & 25. Adult accompaniment required. Cost: $48 for members and $60 for nonmembers.
·         Evening Ed-ventures: Giving parents a chance to have a night out from 6:30-9:30 p.m. while kids learn and have fun, Friday night options include: Conservation Investigation on January 4, Deserts and Healthy Desserts on February 1, and Creepy Night Crawlers on March 1. Cost: $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers; families enrolling more than one child receive a 50-percent discount on the second registration. Adults who stay at Phipps are also invited to enjoy a glass of wine and a selection of small plates at the café for $29.99 per couple.
