My new favorite plant for hanging baskets
I think one of the best things about gardening are the surprises...well, the good ones anyway.
I bought pots filled with a combination of different plants in mid-summer. Then I transplanted them into hanging baskets I had left over from last season
The plants were a deal at 50 percent off in July when the nursery was trying to get rid of annuals.
Bacopa 'Snowstorm Giant Snowflake' from Proven Winners is actually perennial in warmer climates, and it's thrived at the end of the season when we had some cooler weather. It's a plant I knew nothing about, but it's the star of the garden right now. The pretty white flowers and trailing habit are perfect for the baskets.
When I buy discounted annuals in July, I can only hope they will last this long and look this good. I've got seven of the plants around the landscape and they are thriving.
Looking at the forecast, they should survive outside for another week, then I'll put them in an unheated greenhouse and see how long I can get them to survive.
Next season I'll seek these plants out, and get them in the garden early.
