Great garden plants; 'Redbor' kale, plant it now for winter color

blog_rebor_kale_1002Don't tell my you've stopped planting already!

This is just the start of the third part of the season and one thing that's a must in my garden is flowering kale.

I grow lots of different varieties. Some are short and stocky, white, pink or purple. Others are airy, but none compare with 'Redbor.'

This tree like plant reaches three feet in a month and thrives in cold weather. Last year two plants went all the way through the winter and put on a show of yellow flowers in the spring.

I use flowering kale like in containers, this week I'm planting a "winter garden" for the latest Digging with Doug video.

I'm going to fill a hillside with pots filled with mums, flowering kale and pansies. I can see them from the living room window. There's nothing like a little color to nurture the soul during the long cold winter.

'Redbor' pairs perfectly with bright yellow pansies, putting on a show at least through Christmas.

Find some cool loving plants like flowering kale and pansies and find a place for them. You'll be so glad you did in about a month.
