A touching garden tribute for a lost pet
Last week I posted about my fig harvest. Eric Cardwell saw it and sent me this beautiful photo of his harvest. He then explained the inspiration behind planting the tree. It's a wonderful tribute to a best friend. Here's the photo and message as sent.

Dear Doug,
I loved the post on figs. I wanted to share a picture of my first fig "harvest". I planted this Chicago Hardy in memory of our chocolate lab Barley. My wife and I placed his ashes in the ground before planting. It is a great reminder to a lost friend. Thanks to you for the info last year and thank you for the constant inspiration on your blogs and videos.
Eric Cardwell
He also sent along a photo of Barley. What a special gardening story.
