Ligularia is a perennial shade loving plant which comes in many forms. I've grown many, but none compare to 'Britt Marie Crawford.' The plant sports green leaves tinged in purple and tall purple stems. It will reach about two and a half feet high and wide. This time of the year it sends up the most beautiful yellow, daisy like blooms.

I had a couple plants under a maple tree and they hated it. Once I moved them out into a little bit more light and planted them in good compost, they rebounded.

I only watered them once this year, at the worst part of the dought and they looked wonderful all season.

This variety is not hard to find a good nurseries and don't be afraid to ask if they would order you a few.

While you are at the nursery, look at some other varieties of the plant like 'The Rocket.' It's fun to stretch a little in the garden, isn't it?
