Fledgling mourning dove released to the wild

On her nightly hike though our woods, my wife stumbled onto this little guy in the middle of the trail.

I couldn't find a nest and the bird looked disoriented.

Some of you might remember the story of the $300 chicken, but needless to say, my wife is an animal lover.

We didn't know what to do so we called wildlife biologist and master beekeeper Steve Repasky.

He told us to put the bird in a box with a T-shirt and try to feed it some liquefied dog food.

We gave it some food and water and then the next morning called The Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center as directed by Steve.

The woman told me it was normal for a fledgling to spend a couple weeks unable to fly while the mother took care of it.

She said to put the bird back where we found it, and the mother would be back.

It worked, I watched as the bird worked its way under some grass and a few hours later was gone.

After I let the bird go I sent a picture to Steve and he identified it as a mourning dove.

Cute little guy don't you think?
