A couple weeks ago I was helping a friend clean out her house and she gave me a bunch of old birdhouses. Her late husband loved to help the birds. I also bought a huge concrete bird bath and stand from her. The birds have already been enjoying the bird bath.

Here are the birdhouses before work began on them.
The bird houses needed a little TLC as described in this blog.

My daughter loves to create her own art and asked me if she could turn the feeders into something special.

Off we went to Michaels and I let her pick out anything she wanted for her art project.

They also had lots of unfinished birdhouses at the store which were reasonably priced.

After I put a primer coat of white paint on the bird houses and made sure they all functioned correctly, I let her loose.

With an old table covered in an even older sheet, she began to create without any input from me.

This hanging birdhouse is the first I installed. It's hanging over my main garden bed from a flowering crab apple tree.

There's something special about letting a child do there thing without boundaries, to see what they will do.

These birdhouses will never hang in a museum, but the garden will be a better place with these colorful works of art hanging in the trees.

Every time I see one, I'll think of the summer day when my daughter expressed herself with a little paint and some bling.

Hope something nests in a couple of them.

Will these colors turn off the birds, we'll see.
