Seeing anemones bloom right now is a great feeling, seeing anything bloom this time of the year is a thrill. You can find anemones at local nurserie right now and most are 50 percent off. That's also true of many perennial plants and they can go in the ground right now and will come back year after year. It's called the windflower and its pretty flower head sways in the fall breeze. This one enjoys good loamy soil laden with compost and comes back each season. It's a sun lover that will take part shade, but not that much.

It comes in purples, whites and the tuberous varieties have bright reds and deeper blues. This is a tough and reliable plant that should outlive the gardener. Since it's one of the only things left blooming, it gets lots of attention. I love to sit on a garden bench and watch the flower dance in the wind.
