Preserving the treasures of spring

Nothing can compare to the glory of spring. It is the season that thrills gardeners more than any other. Plenty of rain and cool temperatures along with plants popping up everywhere combine for the perfect storm of beauty.
There's one thing more than any other that will help your plants thrive and that's a layer of mulch. Mulch preserves spring moisture, fights diseases and keeps weeds down.
Perennial plants and bulbs will appreciate the blanket as they get ready for next year's blooms.
Find the right mulch for your garden, compost or well aged manures offer the added benefit of releasing nutrients with each rain. A simple thick layer of straw in the vegetable garden will make plants thrive. Bark mulch looks great around ornamentals.
Throw down a layer of mulch; you'll be glad you did when the rains stop and temperatures settle into the 80's.
