To all my friends at the ChargCar Garage in Oakland ... great way to spend a really hot Friday afternoon! Let's do it again sometimes. And thanks to the guys from the Urban Gardener especially our fearless leader, Barker.
Yes, yesterday was shameful promo day for fellow PG people; no apologies, good stuff. Today we update you on some events coming up in the next week and great classes coming up in August and September.
For everyone in Venango County who is clearing out their garage or under the kitchen sink, there is a "hard to recycle" event this Saturday at the Cranberry Mall, Route 322 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here's a PDF that lists what they're taking and some of the charges. For more info, visit the Southwestern Pa. Hazardous Waste Task Force site.
And for anyone who is clearing out a house or going for a new more energy efficient refrigerator with that great rebate, Allegheny County has a new program where they will come and pick up your old refrigerator ( or freezer, air conditioners, dehumidifier, water cooler and other household appliances that contain refrigerants ) for free. You will need to give them a call at either 1-888-GO-FREON (1-888-463-7366 or in the western suburbs, Parkway Heating and Air Conditioning at 412-279-6001, to arrange pick-up. (Health Dept. Sponsors Appliance Recycling Program).
The Pennsylvania Resources Council is offering a slew of classes ranging from rain barrels to vermicomposting composting … that involves worms for all us squirmy folk. Dates are coming up in August so check it out.
As the proud owner of a blue 55 gallon barrel, I will be attending the rain barrel class. Have tried on my own but not met with much success so far. With the way the summer has been going it been either feast or famine for my garden and this is should cut down the watering bill too.
