One million and counting

Written by Lizabeth Gray on .

newMusicFest-90One of the greatest things about this city is its great diversity of trees and the park system that is home to many of them. The people over at Schenley Plaza in Oakland are celebrating their one-millionth visitor today with all sorts of activities including facepainting, balloons and even a tree raffle. Come out and take a ride on the carousel. While you're there you can sign the  "One Million Steps Pledge"  towards making our environment better. The activites go from 2 - 5 p.m.

Not up for partying in the park? Why not take a walk around your yard and see where you could install a rain barrel. This being Pittsburgh with its strange weather and all ... hot and dry then rain like there's no tomorrow ... it's a great way to save money, help the environment and our rivers. The folks over at Nine Mile Run have the information you need and can provide you some options. If you're not in for the basic black rain barrel there are tons of them out there in so many designs that you're sure to find something to suit your curb appeal.

Now for some housekeeping This is a new blog on the PG site. One which we hope will be helpful to the green community and will grow with it. Not so much the traditional blog, we hope to become a clearinghouse for all the amazing activities, adventures and growth of the green lifestyle in the Pittsburgh area. So if you have an event, an idea or just have something to say, sign on and join the discussion.

On the event side, we're working on a Google calendar so folks can just add their events. Will keep you posted on that. In the meantime just send them in and I'll add them to the calendar as we go. Always on the lookout for new green sites in the area so send those our way too.

Now shut down your computer, go outside and enjoy the day.
