The Boss meets the Piano Man
"Movin' Out" right into "Thunder Road."
Sounds like a fun one Thursday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, where attendees laid down between $500 and $25,000 for a chance to see the Boss and the Piano Man on the same stage.
Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel joined forces for "Change Rocks," an Obama fundraiser (yeah, there's been a lot of those).
They let the music do the talking, according to reports from the Associated Press and stereogum.com. They performed songs individually and traded verses on "New York State Of Mind," "Allentown," and "Spirit In The Night." Also joining them were India.Arie, John Legend and Patti Scialfa.
This was one concert Obama wasn't going to miss. He appeared live to joke about why he is seeking the White House: "I was sitting offstage with Michelle, and I ... said, ‘Honey, the reason I'm running for president is I can't be Bruce Springsteen. I can't be Billy Joel."
Here's the set list:
"The Promised Land,"
"This Hard Land"
"Miami 2017"
"Baby Grand"
"Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out"
"Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)"
"Thunder Road"
"A Matter Of Trust"
"Spirit In The Night"
"The Rising"
"New York State Of Mind"
"Glory Days"
"River Of Dreams"/"A Hard Day's Night"
"Born To Run"
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered"
