Stooges-Green Day connection: What is it?

Whenever I think of Stooges' disciples I always think of Green Day. Don't you?

Um, not really.

But apparently, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame couldn't find any punk rockers that go back further than Billie Joe Armstrong -- like a Sex Pistol or Henry Rollins, perhaps? -- to induct the proto-punk band, so the Green Day frontman will do the honors at The Waldorf-Astoria on March 15.

Also...

-- ABBA will be inducted by Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb of BeeGees. Makes sense.

-- The Hollies will be inducted by Steve Van Zandt. That makes sense, too.

-- Jimmy Cliff will be inducted by Wyclef Jean. Perfect. Should be moving on various levels.

-- Genesis will be inducted by Trey Anastasio (Phish). No idea why. Where was Colin Meloy?

The ceremony will be televised live on Fuse and available on www.fuse.tv.
