Visual effects contenders now at 7

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has narrowed the list of contenders for the visual effects Oscar to seven films:

  • "Australia"
  • "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
  • "The Dark Knight"
  • "Hellboy II: The Golden Army"
  • "Iron Man"
  • "Journey to the Center of the Earth"
  • "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"

On Jan. 15, members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 15-minute excerpts from each of the films. They will then narrow the roster to three, which will be announced Jan. 22 with the other nominations. The Oscars will be handed out Feb. 22 in Hollywood.
