HC Robbins Landon dies

Written by Andrew Druckenbrod on .

The irony will not be lost on the musical world as Haydn expert HC Robbins Landon died today, near the end of a Haydn  (1732-1809) year, 2009.

The Telegraph has a nice obituary on the seminal musicologist, to which I can only add that just how impressive Robbins Landon's comprehensive scope was. The Boston-born scholar's name was everywhere in researching that I did as a undergrad and graduate student in musicology, and his old-school, almost swashbuckling style of source research also was an influence on many American scholars to follow.
